In Uganda, matooke (green bananas) is more than just food, it’s a way of life. Found in nearly every backyard and served on almost every buffet, matoke is a national staple and a symbol of home, heritage, and hospitality. For generations, it has been prepared the same way: boiled, mashed, and served as the centerpiece of our meals.
At Matokey, we asked: what if this treasured tradition could evolve? What if we could honor our roots, while unlocking new ways for the world to experience matooke?
That question sparked our journey.
This journey began in a modest kitchen with a team of passionate chefs, food scientists, and dreamers who believed that local ingredients could compete on the world stage. After months of research, taste trials, and feedback from hundreds of tasters, we developed a lineup of unique flagship products made with our signature green banana flour.
We’re reimagining Uganda’s most iconic ingredient into innovative, gluten-free food products that are delicious, nutritious, and globally appealing without losing the soul of where they come from.
